10/28/2020 0 Comments Table of contents 10/28/20I chose the first table of contents layout because it incorporates all the elements that I would like to include in my own table of contents. I like that each article in the magazine gets its own description and I like that the featured articles are separated from the rest at the top to draw in the readers. The table of contents does not exactly match my cover page due to the fact that the color scheme of pink used in the table of contents layout does not match my color scheme, which can easily be modified. Contrarily, the word choice and graphics do match my cover page. I liked the second table of contents layout pictured above because it is organized and separates the articles into different categories based of their content. I also liked the layout of the pictures on the top because it adds to the overall design. This layout does not match my cover page in the way that the pictures do not reflect music and the sections that the articles are separated into do not match my topic
If I were to use this table of contents, I would replace the pictures with others that relate to music and I would make the section titles relate to interviews, performances, and news. Lastly, the third table of contents is appealing because it is simple and organized, while also revealing a lot of information about the contents of the magazine like the description, page numbers, and title of each article. This layout does match my. cover page in the way that it is organized to fit with my topic, but the background picture and information itself would need to be modified to. better fit my magazine cover. For example, I would change the background picture to someone performing on stage. Some possible article topics that I could include in my table of contents would be secrets to songwriting revealed by Taylor Swift, upcoming award shows, Music's greatest hits of all time, performances of the year, highest anticipated albums to come, and the newest artists on the billboard charts.

My response regarding the short clip shown was similar to the example candidate response in several different ways. Both responses contained information and details about the gloomy and dull atmosphere that was created. Both responses discussed the use of mid shots to convey the characters’ emotions in conversation. The use of color on furniture and costumes was discussed in each of the responses where each one detailed the significance of the use of dull colors rather than bright ones. Lastly, each response noted the effect of highlighting the characters’ faces during conversation. Along with a lot of similarities between my response and the candidate’s response, there were also a few differences. The example candidate response was lengthier and more detailed compared to mine with discussion of more elements that I missed. Also, the two responses were structured in completely varying ways. My response did not have an introduction or a conclusion like the example candidate response did. The example one was in chronological order and discussed film techniques in the order that they occurred scene by scene, while my response was not in chronological order. Original write-up:
The camera begins by showcasing the main female character and her household setting through a combination of wide shots and mid-shots to really highlight her in relation to her surroundings. Throughout the beginning, the camera can be seen zooming in on the female character’s face to convey her initial confusion on where the male character was located. Through the duration of the conversation between the male and female character in the basement, an over-the-shoulder shot was often used to portray the reactions of the other character when one was talking. When the male character was killing the female character in the basement, the camera remains on the male’s face even though the action is occurring below the camera where the female is being hit. This allows the viewer to have the ability to imagine what is taking place below the camera to enhance the experience and also highlights the emotions felt by the male while killing his wife. Overall, the camerawork is specifically carried out in a way to convey character emotions and enhance the experience for the viewers. Throughout the clip, sound is used purposely to create a suspenseful effect and to add to the overall scene. In the beginning, all that can be heard is the sound of mechanic noises coming from the basement. This creates a sense of curiosity in the viewer that makes them wonder what is going on downstairs. Along with the use of sound effects to create curiosity, there was also use of the absence of sound. During most of the conversation that took place in the basement, the only sound that could be heard came directly from the characters themselves with silent pauses when there was no dialogue. This creates a sense of suspicion and allows the reader to feel immersed into the scene itself because of its replication to real life. Then, after the murder occurred, suspenseful music can be heard playing in the background to add to the scene and create a sense of uneasiness. It makes the viewers become unsettled. This clip specifically utilizes mise-en-scène to help add to the eerie, unsettling atmosphere. This is done through the setting and props themselves. The house and the basement within the house are lit dimly and designed in a way to make the viewer feel immersed in the scene, and to create a feeling of uneasiness. Also, the colors used throughout the clip are comprised of grays, black, white, and browns. This absence of bright colors associated with positive emotions helps to emphasize the negative emotions portrayed by the dull colors. This can further be seen in the character’s costumes. Both characters were dressed in bland clothing with dull colors to expand upon the lack of positive emotions. Editing is purposely done in a way that intends to bring the audience on the journey along with the characters. Jump cuts are utilized throughout the clip to ensure that character’s emotions are portrayed properly to the viewers. This can especially be seen in the conversation that took place between the characters in the basement. The camera shot jumps from one angle to the next to capture the facial expressions and emotions of the characters. The use of the shot reverse shot conveys the conversation in a continuous way. Also, in the basement scene, the male character looks at a poster off screen and an eyeline match is used to show the poster to the audience. This emphasizes the poster to the audience to reflect on and add to the suspense of the clip. |
